Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! There are many ways to show your patriotism for this National Day – and it’s not just by waving Jalur Gemilang in the air. We’ve listed 5 fun and great activities to do this Merdeka Day.
1. Watch the Independence Day Parade

After a two-year lapse due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the National Day 2022 main celebration themed “Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama” will be back tomorrow, 31st August. 50,000 people are expected to converge at the historic square beginning at 7 AM.
Among the highlights is the arrival of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah on a horse-drawn carriage from Menara DBKL. If you’re coming to this parade, please plan your journey to avoid any traffic congestion.
2. Pesta Buku Merdeka

Starting August 25 until August 31, you can head over to Pesta Buku Merdeka at Sungei Wang Plaza, Kuala Lumpur. The event starts from 10 AM until 10 PM. With the slogan “Merdeka Dengan Membaca” this year’s Pesta Buku Merdeka is co-organised by independent bookstores Bibliophile, Biblio Press, Rabak-Lit as well as Majlis Buku Kebangsaan Malaysia.
This event will feature some exciting programmes such as talks from Dr Maszlee, poetry, music and cultural performances as well as a host of book vendors.

3. Royal Floria Putrajaya

The Royal floral festival opened its doors from 29 August to 4 September 2022 at Anjung Floria, Precinct 4, Putrajaya from 9 AM to 10 PM – presenting a flower exhibition and display gardens of lights at night throughout the 7-day festival.
his year’s floral festival promises show gardens, floral design and floristry demonstrations, as well as exquisite arrangement of 400,000 species of flower from local and international participants. There are also workshops and floral arts and crafts sessions for you to try.

4. Enjoy all the Merdeka promotions

5. Netflix and Chill

For those who’d prefer to spend the public holiday at home, we have a great idea for you to celebrate Merdeka – by watching some great local movies! Netflix is airing quite a number of films in conjunction with their “Rekaan Rakyat” programme. Some of the shows are Teddy Chin’s “Kongsi Raya”. Kuman Picture’s “Roh”, and a well-directed film”Prebet Sapu”, “Hail, Driver”.
