The Raya countdown is on — and if you haven’t sorted out your crisp new notes for those money packets yet, you’re not alone.
The problem? So does every other Malaysian. And that means queues. Long ones. The kind where you show up at 9 AM thinking you’re early, only to discover 200 people had the same plan.
Good news: we’ve done the homework for you. Here’s exactly which banks are offering new notes, when they open, and — most importantly — how to grab yours before they run out.

💡 TL;DR: Most banks start from 10 March 2026. A few (Bank Islam, Affin, Bank Muamalat) began as early as 3 March. CIMB is doing ATM-only from 9–19 March. Exchange windows are short — usually 9 AM to 12 PM — so show up early or miss out.
The Full Bank-by-Bank Breakdown
Not all banks operate on the same schedule. Here’s what we know for each major bank, based on the latest information gathered as of early March 2026.
Maybank
- 📅 Date: 10 March 2026
- 🕙 Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- 📍 Where: Selected Maybank branches nationwide
- 🪪 Who: Open to all — first come, first served
Maybank gets the latest start among the big banks, but they also run the longest window (three hours). A word of caution: selected branches only, so don’t assume your nearest one is participating. Some branches reportedly started quietly from 3 March — worth calling ahead to check.
Bank Islam
Bank Islam has been running since 3 March — but the catch is it’s account holders only.
- 📅 Date: From 3 March 2026 (already running!)
- 🕙 Time: 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- 📍 Where: All Bank Islam branches
- 🪪 Who: Account holders only — bring your MyKad + ATM card
If you’re a Bank Islam customer, you’ve had a week-long head start over everyone else. The trade-off? Non-account holders are completely out of luck here — no walk-ins allowed.
UPDATE: Some Bank Islam branches may also allow non-account holders to exchange from 10th March onwards — as long as you bring cash directly. It varies by branch, so it’s worth asking at your nearest location. The worst they can say is no.
CIMB Bank — The No-Queue Option
CIMB has skipped the branch counter entirely — 25 designated ATMs across Malaysia are dispensing fresh RM10 notes.
- 📅 Dates: 9 March – 19 March 2026
- 🕙 Time: 9:15 AM – 11:00 AM only
- 📍 Where: 25 selected ATMs nationwide
- 🪪 Who: Any CIMB cardholder
This is genuinely the smartest option if you hate queues. No counter. No teller. Just you and the ATM. Below is the full list of participating ATMs as specified in CIMB’s official PDF.

“No queue, no counter, no small talk. Just tap your card and collect your new notes. CIMB’s ATM route is genuinely the smartest — and best — way to do duit raya.”
All Other Banks
Most remaining banks are expected to kick off from 10 March 2026 at their branch counters. A few started earlier:
- ✅ Early starters (from 3 March): Affin Bank, Bank Muamalat
- 📅 Standard start (10 March): Public Bank, Agrobank, BSN, RHB, Hong Leong, AmBank, Bank Rakyat
⚠️ Heads up: The “early starter” dates are based on social media reports from Malaysians who visited their branches — not official bank announcements. Always call your branch or check the bank’s socials before making the trip.

5 Ways to Outsmart the Queue
- Skip the counter — use CIMB ATMs. If all you need is RM10 notes, this is the fastest route. In and out in two minutes. No queue, no drama.
- Show up 30 minutes before opening. Exchange windows are brutally short. The people who get their notes are the ones already in line before the doors open.
- Don’t forget your documents. Bank Islam requires your MyKad and ATM card. Other banks may have similar requirements. Show up without ID and you’re going home empty-handed.
- Call your branch first. Not all branches participate — especially for Maybank. A 30-second phone call beats a wasted trip.
- Try smaller branches. Everyone rushes to the big city-centre branches. The quiet branch in a smaller taman or pekan kecil? That’s where the short queues hide.
