After dominating the smartwatch market for several years, Apple is reportedly exploring the development of a smart ring, similar to the already-launched Oura ring. According to a report from the Electronic Times, there’s potential for Apple to release a smart ring that would enter the competitive arena alongside the Oura Ring and the long-rumored Samsung Galaxy Ring.
While the sourcing is admittedly thin, Apple does hold several patents related to smart rings. The potential functionalities include using the Apple Ring to control other Apple devices. Also, it’s expected to track health info, help with finding your location, and more, just like the Apple Watch, but without a screen.
One thing is for sure, rings are smaller compared to watches and don’t need a strap. They are also much lighter, which could benefit many people.
Unfortunately, the report does not specify when to expect the “Apple Ring” to hit retail shelves. Nevertheless, given the current state of the market, it is anticipated to make its debut in the not-too-distant future.”
