Travellers from Malaysia can finally travel to Hatyai, Thailand by train again. The place offers incredible experiences through its tranquil beaches, historical landmarks, archaeological buildings and not to forget delicious cuisine!
As announced by KTM Berhad, their train services will officially resume from Padang Besar to Hatyai starting 15 July 2022. Passengers can take the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Thailand shuttle train from Padang Besar and vice versa for RM7 per trip.
The shuttle train service ceased its operation temporarily during the Movement Control Order (MCO) back in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From KL, you can take the ETS train from KL Sentral straight to Padang Besar. The trip may take around 5 hours to reach the destination. Once reach Padang Besar, you can get off the train and head to the Thai immigration checkpoint for passport verification and straightaway take the SRT shuttle train from Padang Besar to Hatyai which will take around 10 minutes only. Starting 17 June, Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) announced that the Thailand Pass is no longer required to enter the country from 1 July. All vaccinated travellers can enter Thailand with just the proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated travellers however are still required to show a negative COVID-19 test result as the quarantine scheme has been removed.
No visa is required for Malaysian travellers. You can enter Thailand and stay for 30 days as a tourist. However, if your trip involves a stay of more than 30 days, you must apply for a visa at the Thai Embassy.
